As your preferred ophthalmologist in Canton, The Fladen Eye Center wants you to enter into any treatment with the greatest amount of information possible. Understanding what your treatment provides and how to best recover is key to success. This is particularly true of Lasik, and so we offer these Lasik FAQs to ensure you understand as much as possible.
What Is Lasik?
As your ophthalmologist, we want you to understand that Lasik is a surgical treatment that can be done to eliminate the need for you to wear your glasses or contacts. The way it works is quite simple – a special laser is going to be used to precisely correct and adjust your cornea. It can be used for those who have astigmatism and/or near or far sightedness.
Am I a Good Candidate for Lasik in Canton?
This is one of the more complex Lasik FAQs, because there are many important issues that can qualify or disqualify someone. In a summarized answer, it is right for you if you are over the age of 18, have good health, have healthy eyes, and if your prescription is deemed acceptable. You cannot be pregnant or nursing, either.
Does It Hurt?
This is another of the key Lasik FAQs because it is important for all patients to understand that there is rarely any experience of pain or discomfort during and after treatment. Your eye doctor will numb the area and most patients say they feel pressure but absolutely no pain. If you are nervous about this, you can always request a bit of mild sedation. After surgery there can be a bit of irritation, but this is rare.
Will It Give Me Perfect Vision?
This is going to vary from patient to patient, but most do have vision that is so improved that they no longer require glasses or contacts for reading, driving or any other purpose.
Will You Do Both of My Eyes During the Treatment?
Typically, we do treat both eyes at the same time as this enables you to recover and begin using your improved vision immediately and completely.
