Find Out If You Are a Candidate for Lasik

Most patients who have an astigmatism, are nearsighted or farsighted are good candidates for Lasik and laser vision correction. During your consultation, Dr. Fladen, will thoroughly discuss with you whether you are a good candidate for laser vision correction. Some requirements include the following:

  • At least 18 years old
  • In good health without any other eye diseases such as dry eye syndrome, keratoconus, chronic lid infections or predisposition to inflammatory or infectious diseases of the eye
  • One year of stable vision prescriptions
  • Not currently pregnant or have been nursing in the past 6 months

How Lasik Works

During the procedure, depending on your condition, the specific laser vision correction procedure customized specifically for you will reshape your corneas to adjust how your eye focuses. Each patient receives a personalized solution for their vision problems. To improve far vision, the cornea is flattened. To improve near vision, the curve of the cornea is steepened. Astigmatisms are treated by smoothing out the irregularity. The procedure typically takes around 15 minutes and patients can expect to see clearly the very same day with further improvement over the next several days.

The Procedure

Dr. Fladen will evaluate your personal case to determine your treatment plan of action. This will include an exam and questionnaire about your eye history, general health, and daily activities. Once he has determined you are a good candidate for Lasik, your surgery will be scheduled.

Benefits of Lasik

Safe – Lasik was approved by the FDA in 1995. Over 12 million laser vision corrective procedures have been performed, giving over 20 years of safe eye corrective procedures. Saves You Money in the Long Run – By investing in Lasik now, you are saving yourself from buying prescription glasses, contact lenses, sunglasses, eye drops, cleaning solutions and other products that come along with needing glasses. This can amount to thousands of dollars over your lifetime.

Simple and Pain Free Procedure – The procedure is done while you are awake within 15 minutes. There is no pain and most patients can return to their daily schedule the next day.

FSA and LASIK

LASIK is an approved procedure for your FSA account. A Flexible Spending Account (FSA) is an employer-sponsored financial account that allows you to pay for approved medical expenses. The benefit of an FSA is that it is tax-advantaged as the money you contribute to your FSA is deducted from your paycheck prior to taxes being deducted. FSAs are ideal for

medical procedures that are not otherwise covered by medical insurance, such as LASIK. An FSA account is regulated by a “use it or lose it” rule, meaning that if the funds contributed to the FSA account are not spent by the end of the year, they are forfeited, so schedule your LASIK consultation today and use your funds toward LASIK before they expire. Already used your FSA funds this year? During your consultation, we can help you plan for next year.

HSA & LASIK

LASIK is an eligible medical expense which can be paid for using dollars from your Health Spending Account (HSA). An HSA is available to taxpayers who are enrolled in high-deductible health plans. HSAs are long-term plans, meaning the money you contribute can roll-over year-to-year. The benefits of an HSA are that they are tax-advantaged as the money you contribute to your HSA is deducted from your paycheck prior to taxes being deducted, and the money in the account earns interest. By using these tax-free dollars, you can save over $900 with no out-of-pocket expense. Schedule your LASIK consultation today and use your HSA funds toward LASIK. During your consultation, we can help you determine the cost of your customized LASIK procedure so you know what to contribute toward your HSA.
